WCR State Meeting
Monterey CA
January 18 - 20 2009

Cecily Tippery, Cynthia Alfred,
Lynn Valintis & Mary Jane Dukellis
President Lynn Valintis, President-Elect Mary
Jane Dukellis, Cecily Tippery & Secretary
Cynthia Alfred represented the Delta Chapter of
WCR recently at the first state meeting of 2009
in Monterey to witness the installation of new
state president Mike Riley. The 3-day conference
included a welcome reception, business meetings,
President Obama's swearing in ceremony,
educational breakout sessions and an elegant
installation ceremony & dinner.
Cynthia shared at the February BRM the
highpoints of the conference which included
presentations made by speaker Carol Rodini and
2009 National President Becky Hill from Texas.
Ms. Rodini reviewed the status of foreclosures
both residential and commercial and then turned
the focus on the anticipated increase in lending
in 3 to 5 months and the forecasted return of
builders in 2012-2013.
Ms. Hill spoke on leadership and advised that
when in a leadership role your focus should be
on encouraging people who already have the drive
and motivation to be eagles and soar, because
(referencing her book) "you can't send a duck to
eagle school".
The final speaker, Amy Chorew, addressed the
topic of leveraging your listings. Cynthia
closed with encouraging everyone to attend the
next meeting, Sunday, May 31 - June 2 in
Sacramento. For more information contact Cynthia
Alfred at nunlkme@aol.com

Maria Giuriato
Speaks on a
Brave
New World
January 9th
BRM
When
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger asked
Maria Giuriato to represent the
Transportation & Housing Agency and
the Department of Real Estate he
chose a brave one.
As a member of the Governor's task
force, Maria assists in developing
housing policy recommendations. Her
key assignment is to implement the
Road to Economic Opportunity
initiative to stimulate California's
economy. Maria spoke on special
funding and partnerships, including
"Project Homeowner", a major state
effort for education, certification
and counseling.
Maria emphasized that there are
opportunists taking advantage of our
current situation and stressed how
important it is to follow your
instincts. She said "When it doesn't
feel right, investigate it." Maria
encouraged everyone to be proactive
and email her with requests or
complaints for modification without
stopping payments. Changes are in
motion.

JANUARY
MEMBER
OF THE MONTH
Shirley Freeman
GEM Mortgage

One impressive lady, Shirley Freeman was
recognized as Member of the month at our
January BRM. Her many accolades include
starting and developing her own very
successful communications company
and serving as District President of the
organization known as Business and
Professional Women.
Her friends describe her as a fun
loving, kind and giving person who will
always have your back no matter what the
circumstance. Shirley's husband says
that when he first met Shirley "It was
love at first sight. I knew this was the
lady I wanted to be with." And fun
loving she is, they spent their
honeymoon scuba diving.
Through the trials of life, Shirley
presses on over the bumps. She has had
the tenacity to fight Leukemia and still
believes in the magic of a margarita.
Shirley is a contributor. Since her
first WCR meeting, she has volunteered
herself in incredible ways. This year,
we are fortunate to have her chairing
the Education & Programs Committee.
Congratulations Shirley Freeman, our
January Member of the Month.

Stu
Carty
speaks on Marketing on a Dime!
Did you know that you have 3 seconds to
engage your recipient with your email
blast? Stu Carty, veteran sales and
marketing specialist with 20+ years
progressive experience in the enterprise
software industry, spoke at the February
BRM with an appeal to the audience to be
wise with email marketing campaigns.
In an age where emails can be blocked,
bounced, opted in/out, forwarded, and
deleted, we've long since left the days
of the simple email blast through an
in-box. It's just too risky. Stu
stressed that a quality email list is
built on permission for you to contact,
the "opted-in list", and is the most
effective in marketing campaigns. Stu
advised that the varied responses of
recipients are key in developing a high
quality email list and target market.
By gathering open rates, complaints,
bounce rates, to name a few, your target
market can be fine tuned and your
effectiveness can be increased. Thank
you, Stu for your insight on this
important communication tool of the day.
Stu Carty can be contacted at scarty@constantcontact.com.

FEBRUARY
MEMBER
OF
THE MONTH
Wendy Shearer
Keller Williams Realty
When February's Member of the Month is
recognized for her famous can-do,
will-do, attitude, everyone knows it
must be Wendy. She has the can do
attitude that survives a coma during the
last phase of a pregnancy. A will-do
attitude to get over the fear of public
speaking by embracing Toastmasters,
leadership in BNI and a board position
for WCR.
She has the positive attitude that has
her friends saying, "She is soooo
perfect. Totally organized, the perfect
mom, and she has great taste in
everything." Wendy has passion for life.
Her family, a glass of Chardonnay, Pismo
Beach, Madonna, even those few blond
moments make her real and a treasure to
those that know her.
Congratulations Wendy Shearer, for
leading the Delta Chapter with passion
when the market was down and difficult,
for bringing a ray of sunshine into a
room with your incredible smile, your
tenacious work ethic and professional
example, our February Member of the
Month.
