SEPTEMBER MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Sharp Realty
Our Member of the Month is a current and past fashion show model and served on this year's fashion show committee. She will also be part of our 2010 Leadership Team.
Jodi's many attributes (according to those interviewed) include her love for family first, she is kind (but no push over!), patient, polite, definitely a techie, an early adapter, organized (especially with short sale submission packages), a wine drinker, respected, loved by clients, and loved by agents on the other side. We all agree with a resounding, "that's Jodi!"
Great big kudo's went out to Jodi when during the fashion show planning, she moved from model into the position of Dorothy only 2 weeks before the show. She did an indredible job! She is a wonderful asset to our WCR family and a treasure as a friend.
Congratulations Jodi Marfia, our September member of the month!

You did it! Last newsletter, I had suggested that you bring a friend or business associate to a WCR event. Be it the September Business Resource Meeting where we listened and laughed with three successful entrepreneurs or the 9th Annual WCR Fashion Show, the attendance was SPECTACULAR!
It is interesting to listen to the many comments that are made during and after a BRM or event. For instance, at the September BRM, new member, Tina Short of TPG The Property Group said, "This group is professional, energetic and has such pride in striving to be the very best they can be. I want to be a part of this!" It is certain that our Delta Chapter of the Women's Council of Realtors is the place to ask questions, get advice and run with the best.
The comments and praises of this years Fashion Show were a resounding "This was the best yet!" Ways & Means Chair Linda LoGrasso was right on by blending the traditional fashion extravaganza and a humorous script with a hopeful message for all of us in this economy.
In the midst of the final months of 2009, keep in mind that there are a few date changes for our Business Resource Meetings. In November we are meeting the 3rd Friday and in December we are meeting on the 1st Friday. It's a bit out of the routine but guaranteed to be as enriching as ever. Be sure to make your reservations so that you don't miss out. And of course, bring a friend or associate.
In closing and in the words of our dear Dorothy aka Jodi Marfia, "There is no place like here, there is place like now."
Respectfully,
Donna Zickerman, Newsletter Editor

2009 9th Annual
Women's Council of Realtors
Fashion Show
October 23rd
The 2009 9th Annual Fashion Show was a smashing success! Taking a different approch this year, Linda (Edwards) LoGrasso set out to send a message of hope and assurance to everyone in the industry.
Kathy Zickenberg (model), Patti Shaner (model), Barbara Mcintyre (Lender the Lion) Linda LoGrasso (Director, model, script writer, Ways & Means Chair) John Bedford (The Wizard) and Shawn Beddingfield (Tin Man Realtor)
The Fashion Show committee was inspired by the suggestion of Bev Myers to take on a Wizard of Oz theme. Linda LoGrasso pulled out her already honed author-ship skills to create a parody on the theme and all agreed that it was to showcase our own journey "On the Yellow Brick Road".
Monica Malcuit (Wicked Witch of Loss Mitigation) and Patti Shaner (model)
Although planning began in May, and each member of the committee wore several hats, the rehearsal schedule for both the actors and the models was a mere 1 week prior to the performance.
Jennifer Haus and Maria Bruno, both models get ready for their CAbi segment.
There is a lot of behind the scenes orchestration that goes on before the show. Here President Elect Mary Jane Dukellis and Steve O Sullivan (Master of Ceremonies) go over final details.
The entire performance can be revisited on a DVD that has been produced by Mitchell Kell and an incredible photo CD gallery has been created by Jennifer Fink of Generations Photography.
The cast, crew, and committee will be previewing the DVD and Photo CD Gallery at the celebration party on November 19th.
To reserve your Photo CD Gallery please contact Jennifer Fink at photojen@comcast.net. The Photo CD is $25 and a big Thank You to Jennifer for donating $5 from every CD to the Chapter.
Jennifer can also be contacted at Generations Photography (925) 516-3840.
Thank you to Laurie Wexner for providing the photo's that are included here.

September 11th Business Resource Meeting
Three distinguished women entrepreneurs gifted us with their stories of trial and triumph at the September Business Resource Meeting.
Kathi Reed, Wine Shop at Home, shared of her transition from employee to independent. With her roots in hydroelectricity, she traveled on a journey of helping others, working with different and sometimes difficult personalities; she strived to bloom wherever she found herself.
She has experienced the thrill of owning her own company and being bought out, as well as the shock of being a very successful independent of a company that closes their doors. Each step for her has been the catapult of a new and more rewarding venture.
Kathi began the panel discussion sharing that we shouldn't hold anything back. Keep getting involved and do what you love. Her desire to get involved lead her to accepting the role of President of the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce in 2008.
Marissa LaMagna, East Bay Green Tours, spoke of her background as a school teacher and wife to a husband who failed 17 businesses before he became successful. Always on a search to do something she really loved, she found that each decade she re-invented herself. Being adaptable and persistent, she moved from New York to California being open to the possibilities of what she could become.
At age 60, she has found that she's re-invented herself one more time with the creation of East Bay Green Tours. She is fervently involved with preserving our natural resources and leaving the smallest carbon footprint possible. Her passion is evident describing her business to all of us, "...The bad news is that many real estate and building professionals don't have a full understanding of the green market, or how to educate their prospects on it. No one buys a house without seeing it first. So why try to "sell green" without getting a first-hand look at what the word means to the housing and commercial real estate markets?

The bottom line with "green" building is that innovation is outpacing the market, and with the new paradigm comes the need for new education. The East Bay Green Tours allow you to see this innovations being practiced at every stage of the sustainable building process. No other seminar or training in the region offers a more in-depth and comprehensive experience on all the many definitions of what "green" means and how it's working. Plus, they are really fun. It's not a show room - it's not an Expo - it's a real time learning experience.
Barbara Mason shared her journey of two decades in the economic development field. With humor and passion she spoke of taking a 2/3 cut in pay in order to do something she loved. From working under the Davis administration for the Main Street Program to running an EBay store, to her role as Economic Development Director of Oakley to opening her own consulting business, she referred to the crossroads in life and the search in finding the place where you fit.
Here Barbara shares, "Being successful in business starts with being successful in life and should be synonymous. Love what you do! If it is a chore getting out of bed, applying makeup and sliding the pumps on in the morning, it is time to re-examine how you are spending your limited hours on this earth.
My best advice to you is always remember to feed your soul! As moms, dads, caregivers, carpool drivers, soccer coaches and everything else that goes on in our lives seems to draw our reserves, remember to replenish. Get a message, volunteer at your church, go to a movie by yourself, take a yoga class, have a lunch with a friend that is not a co-worker, teach a class -- add energy back into yourself.
Surround yourself with people who add energy into your life and not those who suck it way. It is so important as we take care of everyone else in our lives to remember yourself too! If you love what you do, your job will never seem to be a chore, but a passionate love affair with life! Remember, if you can't say "Yippee skippy -- I get to go to work today!", what are you doing there? Many Thanks to our September BRM speakers!

California State Chapter Meeting
October 2009, Sacramento
In early October these familiar faces journied to Sacramento to participate in the California State Chapter meeting on behalf of the Delta Chapter WCR. They brought back great ideas that will be evident moving forward into 2010. Pictured abve are Cecily Tippery (newly elected to serve at the State Chapter level), Lynn Valintis (President of our Chapter), Mary Jane Dukellis (President-Elect) and Jodi Marfia (serving on our 2010 Governing Board). A big thank you goes to these four for their commitment on behalf of the Delta Chapter. | |
