At the June BRM, I was speaking with Kathy Thill (ServPro), a guest who was back for the second time. She brought a friend with her and I asked what she enjoyed most about the business resource meeting. Kathy commented on the relaxed and friendly nature of the group. That even though she wasn't a RealtorŪ, the information she received was really helpful. She expressed "what is shared here is fundamental to growing during this time. done professionally with humor. A real boost for me and my can do attitude." As an affiliate myself, I identified with her immediately. The Delta Chapter of the Women's Council of RealtorsŪ is an inspiring group of dedicated women (and men). With the common purpose for influencing growth and contribution to the success of one another and our communities. The organized structure provides a foundation that each individual can firmly stand on yet expand and develop. Monica Rodgers (Property ID) said it wonderfully, "It's a safe place to grow." At the next BRM, the State of the Cities by the Mayors' Panel will allow us to hear of the progress made during the first half of 2009 and what we might expect as we close in on the second half. a perfect opportunity to invite a friend or two. They will be impressed and the credit will go to you.

Respectfully,
Donna Zickerman, Newsletter Editor

Annual Top Producers Panel
Survivors Tell All!
May 8th BRM
Picture a room decorated with tiki torches and foliage; the survivor theme playing in the background. Real Estate Agents Jim Mann, Cecily Tippery, Brian Sharp, Libby Guthrie, along with Lender Mark DiMercurio are in position and ready. They have prepared themselves to be slaughtered with intense questions. Linda Edwards LoGrasso, bearing an Indiana-Jones-Style-Whip, threatens to thrash the truth from them, "How is it you have done so well in this market when others are closing their doors?" she demands. The initial shock of the whip causes a dead like silence. The room awaits their response. These appointed survivors opened up and shared their best kept secrets at the WCR Delta Chapter Business Resource Meeting. It was unanimous that the current market requires more determination, organization and communication than ever. The energy in the room was fueled by a desire for all of us not just to survive but THRIVE in this market. The culmination was a live auction of the survivors themselves, each volunteering a designated amount of time to mentor the highest bidder. Great information, tips and fun was had by all!

The TOP Producers Panel share their survivor tips and skills!

The Survivor Welcoming committee.
Cheryl Gregory, Delta Lending and May WCR Room Sponsor poses with Linda Edwards Lo Grasso, American Pacific Mortgage and Chairman of the Ways & Means Committee.
What a great Meeting!

MAY MEMBER OF THE MONTH
American Pacific Mortgage

Our May Member of the Month has a unique story. Born and raised in Sicily, she traveled to the US after graduation, where she fell in love. What ensued was a three year VERY long distance relationship built on expensive phone calls, the U.S. Mail and visits to each other's home countries. Anthony finally asked Maria's father for her hand in marriage and she made the United States her home. With broken English, but a bold spirit, she began a career in the mortgage business. Now described with the tenacity of a wild tiger, she is an accomplished loan consultant with no fear to market herself and find business opportunities. Things were different when she began, considering the language barrier and all the loan acronyms of the mortgage business. In an early position she was answering phones when a customer called in wanting to know what the COFI rate was. Surprised, our honoree simply responded, "I don't know what you're talking about. We don't sell coffee here. We sell loans." Well, she's learned a lot since then. Now, her tenacity and drive are so impressive that her boss tells me every manager would wish they had "ten of her to compliment their team." Maria adores her children Massimo and Isabella and their many activities including church, baseball and horseback riding lessons. She is a natural in the kitchen where her friends and family get the benefit of her passion for cooking.
Maria took on many of the responsibilities of the WCR Martini Madness fundraiser. We appreciate her dedication and know the event's huge success (we netted almost a $4,000 profit) was due largely to her efforts.
We honor you, Maria Bruno, as our May Member of the Month.

AMOS WHITE
Lead Generation on the Web

Have you ever felt like you were in the midst of an historically significant time of change? That is how I felt as I listened to Amos White, owner of "Amos White Internet Marketing Training & Coaching" and our speaker at the June Business Resource Meeting.
Amos humorously pointed out that when it comes to internet marketing, many of us have entered the on-ramp of the information highway only to end up as road kill.
He stressed that to effectively use the networking tools of the internet we must cross over to where others can follow. "Be there, share and show you care." "It is expanding your sphere of influence by building viewers that become followers."
To learn more about using internet networking tools such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Plaxo, Blogger, Wordpress and more connect with Amos at Amos White.

JUNE MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Bev Meyers
American Pacific Mortgage

Known by her friends, colleagues and clients as one of the nicest ladies in the world, Bev actively demonstrates her positive, passionate, and dedicated character with everyone.
Our honoree is an avid reader, scrapbooker and knitter; her passion to travel involves diving both in the waters of St. John and sky diving from 12,000 feet. (Amazing!)
She uses her positive energy to help a Native American Indian community. Together with a few partners, she has been diligently working to build a plant that will produce manufactured homes for Indians that are given land on reservations for homes. In a former career she ran a modeling studio and helped teach beauty, poise and manners, perfect serving as a model for WCR's fashion show for the last two years.. Her childhood as a minister's daughter left her grounded in scripture. She shares these deep rooted values with her four wonderful grandchildren, making special time for each of them and staying active in their lives. They adore her.
Her co-workers and clients adore her too. "She is just always so nice," In the mortgage business for the last 20 years, she has made quite an impact by helping people obtain the perfect loan.
Remember the beautiful hand painted "Martini Madness" glasses? It was Bev who came to the meeting with paints, brushes and talent and taught our committee how to transform plain glasses into the flowered masterpieces they became. We are a better chapter because of this woman's contribution.
Congratulations Bev Meyers, our June Member of the Month. |

State Meeting June 2009 Report
Submitted by: Cecily Tippery
The WCR California State Chapter meeting was awesome, the best ever, in my opinion. As usual on Sunday night, the State Officers met with Committee Chairs, Strategic Planning Committee and DVPS and Governors. On Monday and Tuesday we had general business meetings both days with the Standing and Special Committees reporting to the Governing Board.
In addition, the State provided, chapter classes regarding parlimentary procedure, recruiting, social networking and election procedures to help local chapters with these issues. There were breakout sessions for the chapter line officers talking about responsibilities and accountabilities for that position. The State may be looking to provide checklists and guidelines for these positions in total.
I went to the Treasurer's session and it was wonderful to note that many chapters have the same challenges and have provided different solutions. In addition, we had speakers: Tom Hart, "Survive and Thrive in Today's Market" talked about prospecting and being proactive, staying positive and keeping perspective. Vickie Naidorf, ABC's of Real Estate: Risk Management Basics-Document, Document, Document One of the things that caught my ear was that there should be no "junk fees" in the contract charged to buyer or seller, 90 days for evictions on REO properties unless CFK in place, short sale addendum put limit on time. Kathy Mehringer, "Secrets of Closing Short Sales" forms and proven methods as well as legal issues with short sales. Finally, Dr. Harry Perdew, "Reading People from the Outside In" talked about facial expressions and non verbal clues. Jim Liptac and Steve Goddard, CAR President and President Elect stopped in for a few minutes to address the members. Alex Creel, lobbyist for CAR, talked about pending legislation and how the legislative process works. Wow, it takes a minimum of eight votes in different committees to get a bill passed! Finally, State Business. The State Chapter is considering a new website provider: Upgraded Agent. Due to ease of use and the all the bell's and whistles, the Technology Committee recommended that the Executive Committee review and take action if appropriate. The good news is that websites will be available to the local chapters and individual agents. Also the State is reviewing a dues increase of up to $10 per member due to low reserves and falling sponsorship in the last two years. This will be voted on by at the General Meeting in October 3-5, 2009 in San Jose, CA.
I would also like to note that the following were put up as Nominees for State Officers from the Nominating Committee: President Elect:
Sherri Souza Secretary: Jamie Saltman Treasurer: Heather Ozur Governor:
Diane Busch Mary Christianson Carole Cuthburt JoAnn Levine Sharon Mancillas District Vice President:
Kathie Bell
Carold Shields Sharon Bridges
David Smadback
Nicole Burns Krista Johnson
