Are we on the right road to get from where we are to where we want to be? That has been a common thread of discussion over the last two months. Be it the views of Mayors and Leaders to educators and coaches to the experienced in the real estate industry, it is certain that staying steadfast and dedicated to basic principles is the way to go. One of these steadfast principles is keeping close to like-minded people. People like those that you find as members of the Women's Council of Realtors. Month after month collaboration evokes movement. Tough questions are asked, "Are we headed in the right direction?" "Do we have the courage to face the unknown?" Together we are on the road to effect positive change in our community, we experience the evidence each month when we come together. Within this brief newsletter you have a glimpse of what takes place as a result of the efforts of our Delta Chapter. Moving forward into September, put into practice another steadfast principle "there is strength in numbers" by bringing a friend to the next Business Resource Meeting where 3 powerful women in business will share their stories. You'll have taken one more step on the road of your future.
Respectfully,
Donna Zickerman, Newsletter Editor

July 10th BRM
The July Business Resource Meeting featured the STATE OF OUR CITIES with a Mayors' Panel. A perfect opportunity to learn the latest in what is happening in each city and how they are faring during the current economy.
Mayor of Brentwood, Bob Taylor didn't mince words, he came right out and said that this so called "recession is a depression". He quickly followed the statement referencing a wheel, "it always turns." Mr. Taylor highlighted progress in the areas of the Brentwood City Center, downtown renovation and the recently opened new library which will expand to 18,000 square feet upon completion.
Vice Mayor of Oakley, Pat Anderson, reflected on the 10 year old city of Oakley's efforts to adopt a new image. Adapting to current conditions has demanded streamlining yet without giving up their attitude of "polite, professional, progressive city government". Ms. Anderson spoke highly of community involvement in the neighborhood traffic program and CalTrans' relinquishing of Hwy 4/Main Street. She finished with a solid belief that "Oakley's best days are not behind us, they are ahead of us."
The General Manager of Discovery Bay, Mr. Virgil Koehne spoke of this "Junior City's'" focus to "Protect the Water". Not a surprising position for the recreational voting community; Discovery Bay is built on water, the vital resource that is not manufactured anywhere. Mr. Koehne referenced the biggest challenge to cleaning the water up is removing the pharmaceuticals, aluminum and hormones that accumulate. He is pleased with the alliance they have formed with the University of Berkeley in these efforts.

After opening remarks by each representative, the questions began to come in from the floor. Has mandatory housing been reached as required by the general plan? Are there stimulus funds being used and how? Will there be a high school built in Discovery Bay? Abandoned homes and mosquito abatement? Uncollectible HOA fees and reduced services? Every question was responded to with an assurance that collectively our communities will get through this unique time.

JULY MEMBER OF THE MONTH
American Pacific Mortgage
Our July Member of the Month is one of the hardest working people you will ever meet. She has been described as the type of realtor who refuses to sit home and whine or worry about her business. Instead, she's in the office working hard every day - making it happen. By the same token, when she isn't working hard, she's definitely playing hard. With a passion for vacations to Cabo San Lucas, snow skiing, sitting by the pool catching some rays, gardening, bike riding and going to lunch with friends, she just doesn't do things half way. Everything about her is "all out."
Laurie was hired by a property management company back in 1987, starting as a temp doing data entry. Showing an enormous amount of skill and efficiency, the company quickly brought her on permanently and had her coordinating properties. Eventually, encouraged by friends and co-workers, she got her real estate license in 1995 and moved on to pursue a career as a realtor. According to her manager, her many awards and achievements include: a Quality Service Certification, the RE/MAX Hall of Fame in 2006, Most Referred Real Estate Agent in 2007, RE/MAX Platinum Awards in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006, and the RE/MAX 100% Award in 2007 and 2008. Her specialties include Diversified Financial, marketing and management techniques and 1031 tax exchanges.
Laurie is also known as the Queen of Cartwheels and gave us a demonstration as she came up to accept her award as the July WCR Delta Chapter Member of the Month. Way to go Laurie! |
BRAD WARREN
Social Networking for Leads
August 14th BRM
Do you reach a point where you no longer need to generate leads? No Way! Brad Warren, speaker at the August Business Resource Meeting emphasized that after 31 years he is still in the trenches gathering and hunting for leads. Why? It's critical to success. A real estate business coach and seminar leader, he began his training for us noting the difference between generating leads, lead follow up and lead conversion. Planning and scheduling each of these activities contributes to your maximum effectiveness. Mr. Warren spoke in detail on venues for lead generating including phone calling, door knocking, holding open houses, attending live events, social networking vehicles and advertising. By using a consistent planning and implementation process the reservoir never dries up. In order to become more effective, Brad challenged us to use his 5 step planning process for 30 days.
1. Review yearly, quarterly and monthly goals to stay focused on what you want to accomplish. Use SMART goals.
2. Review the previous week for lessons learned, insights, things to repeat and those to avoid.
3. Review upcoming week, checking schedule to trigger action steps such as confirming appointments.
4. Schedule lead generation time based on what is needed.
5. Schedule everthing else including free time.
By planning well and then scheduling implementation results can happen. After all, "education without action is simply entertainment." Contact Brad Warren at Brad Warren to learn more. |

AUGUST MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Diana Esias-Fernandes
American Pacific Mortgage
Thirty two years ago, a couple of German, Hungarian and Yugoslavian descent were living in Communist ruled Romania. They gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and raised her in that Communist country until she was six years old. Themselves being educated, they wanted to ensure that their daughter had a chance at a future as well. So, they decided to flee Romania and risk coming to the United States to make better lives for their family.
They arrived in Hayward, California and are so thankful that they took the risk to escape, because they have seen their daughter grow up and flourish in her life both personally and professionally. At the August Business Resource Meeting we honored Diana as our August Member of the Month. Her career began in newspaper and moved to public relations. After the dotcom bust, she migrated to a title company.
"Amazing" is a word her boss uses to describe her, too. She says she hired her because there was just something about her that made her know she was the right one. "Her values are strong; she's happy and passionate about what she does. She is not sales-y. She has an honesty and trueness that comes out with clients again and again," her boss explained. Her approach to business seems to be working as she consistently gets new referrals from old clients. She excels at one-on-one client interaction and her persistence to always be a high achiever and work deliberately is evidenced daily in her business success.
She volunteers wherever needed, and with her gentle spirit, she makes a huge impact. For example, our upcoming Fashion Show generally has a large raffle associated with it. Gathering those donations and selling tickets for it is no small task. But, our honoree has agreed to head that effort up - absolutely no small job! We are so thankful for people like her who rise to the occasion and pitch in to make a difference. We are lucky to have her in our Chapter.
Congratulations to JCP's Diana Esias-Fernandes as our August Member of the Month. | |
